Farewell Carrot Cake - 1st time modeling a person!

As it happens the same day the baby came to visit at work, one of our other colleagues was leaving after a long service with the company... so I decided to make my yummy Carrot cake & use the opportunity to practice covering it with fondant & making a gumpaste model.
I had fun doing the model, just broke it down into simple steps over 3 nights, giving pieces time to dry before moving on to the next.
The difficult part was the hair, which broke off during the travel to work, but otherwise I was pretty happy for a first time effort.

Bunny Cakes for a Baby Boy

A work colleague recently had a beautiful baby boy and came in for morning tea to introduce him to everyone... a great excuse for me to make a mini cake & mini cupcakes. The bunny was a hit!

Peanutbutter frosted Chocolate Cupcakes... out of this world!

These are probably my favourite flavour cupcake combination so far - and they looked great too, will definitely be making them again.
I used my super easy 1-bowl chocolate cupcake recipe which makes a dark, moist cake & topped them with a delicate swirl of delicious not-too-sweet peanutbutter frosting. mmmm mm

Valentines gifts... truly baked with Love!

Well I couldn't let the day of my most favourite things - Red, hearts, chocolate & romance go by without baking some Valentines goodies. Technically not all baking, I had a go at some hand-made chocolates too, they were suprisingly easy.. and (in the spirit of quality control) quite tasty I thought! It's weird, I'm not at all patient by nature - but when it comes to fiddly little decorations for cakes etc I can spend hours getting them how I want. I guess thats where the 'love' comes in... it's all about making something sweet for someone special.

The cupcakes were Raspberry with a hefty dose of red colouring & white choc-creamcheese icing... the chocolates were a selection of different flavours.

Looks-like-a-chocolate Cake

I made this cake earlier this week for a colleague leaving work, she (like myself) is a self confessed chocoholic. I'd seen a cake similar to this on a blog a few months back and knew it would be perfect for Miss S. I made a Devil Food cake, filled it with caramel & ganache & covered it with chocolate ganache icing. I must admit, it was pretty good... rich & moist without being overly sweet. Will definitely use the recipe again :)
